Gordon Hignell Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the most outstanding performance by a Vocal Group 

Gordon Hignell’s mother and widow donated the Gordon Hignell Memorial Trophy to the Winnipeg Music Festival in 1951.  This trophy was originally given for the most outstanding Grade B Two Song Group Vocal performance. Since 2009, this trophy has been given for the most outstanding performance by a Vocal Group.

Gordon Kirby Hignell, the son of V.R. Hignell, was born in 1919.  He served with the 197th R.C.A.F. Squadron in World War II.  Officer Hignell, a R.C.A.F. pilot, was reported missing over France and declared killed July 23, 1943.
