Ladies Orange Benevolent Association Trophy

Ladies Orange Benevolent Association Trophy

Awarded for the most outstanding performance, in eligible classes, of a Folk Song, traditional or traditional style, by a vocalist 14 years or younger

The first Primary Ladies Orange Lodge was instituted in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1908 in the Scott Memorial Orange Hall.  Worthy Mistress at that time, was Mrs. David McKee.  The Ladies’ Orange Benevolent Association (LOBA) thru the years has contributed to a number of worthy causes.  They organized and maintained an Orphan’s home in Winnipeg, until changes in government rules caused the closure of such homes.  The LOBA has supported the Cancer Society, the Diabetic Association, the Hard of Hearing, and the Children’s Hospital, providing wheelchairs when needed.  They have provided bursaries/scholarships to the University of Winnipeg (United College), and St. John’s College (University of Manitoba Campus).  The Association donated the Ladies’ Orange Benevolent Association Trophy to the Winnipeg Music Festival in 1951.  Originally the trophy was awarded for the most outstanding performance of a Folk Song Solo by girls 16 years of age and under.  In most recent years, the trophy was awarded for the most outstanding performance in a competition of girls, 14 years of age & under.
